Introduction

The Module

During my 3rd year in Edinburgh Napier University, I participated in a module called Creative Technology. The brief was to create and develop a creative artefact using technology based on Marshall McLuhan's book "The Medium Is The Massage". The overarching idea that the artefact should be artistic.

Development

My Project

The project Idea for this module was a 2D balancing game using the Unity game engine. This was the first time I ever used Unity and C# as I was most familiar at the time with Unreal Engine and blueprints. I wanted the game to be artistic and have an underlying meaning that the player could take away with them after they played it. I took a lot of inspiration from Confucianism which has the belief that human beings are fundamentally good. Toying with the idea of how society can turn good and happy people, into bitter and angry people. In order to win this game the player would need to lose.

Mechanics

The player will take control over a rectangle platform, with an AI voice telling the player what to do such as to balance the circles falling on the platform. The utilization of the Adafruit Circuit Playground (Seen above) takes control over the platform acting as a motion controller using it's onboard accelerometers. The task

and expectation of the AI voice is impossible to fulfil. So the way to win the game is to not lisena to the AI voice and quit the game. This then takes the player to the win screen bringing a whole new meaning to the term: ''Beating the game.''

Conclusion

In conclusion, the artefact gained praise from the marker. I believe that this experience allowed me to expand my skillset to the Unity game engine and C#.
